Dual Credit

Students at MHS have the opportunity to enroll in Dual Credit Courses. This means they take courses taught at MHS by MHS teachers through different universities during the regular school day, earning both high school graduation credits and college credit at the same time at a much reduced price. The teachers of these courses have been approved by the respective colleges offering the credit as adjunct instructors, and the courses they teach have been approved as meeting comparable university course requirements and objectives.

Eligibility

Students wishing to earn dual credit must meet the requirements set by the College/University in which the credit is being offered - this standard is set by the college not Mehlville High School.

Enrollment

Enrollment processes and deadlines vary by each institution. It is the students responsibility to pay attention to these deadlines when communicated. Classroom teachers will provide registration information when the course begins.

All enrollment processes and deadlines are set by each individual institution. This means that all steps in the enrollment process must be completed by the deadline set by the institution including all parent approval steps and extensions cannot be provided by MHS.

Cost & Payment

Cost per credit hour and payment varies by each College/University. Payment for the cost of the course is the responsibility of the student/family. All billing and payment will be made through the college directly and any questions related to payments should be directed to the institution in which the course is being taken through.

Dual Credit Scholarships

Department of Higher Education Scholarship

The Department of Higher Education and Workforce Development provides a scholarship for eligible high school students to cover the tuition and feed of dual credit or dual enrollment courses.

Eligibility

Applicants mut meet the following requirements:

1.  Be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident and a Missouri resident

2.  Enroll in dual credit/dual enrollment classes through an approved Missouri college or university

3.  Have a minimum 2.5 unweighted, cumulative high school GPA and meet other requirements for taking dual credit/dual enrollment classes

4.  Meet one or more of the following indicators of financial need: 

  • Immediate family eligible for free or reduced lunch
  • Living in a foster home
  • Ward of the state
  • Homeless as defined by the McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act
  • Immediate family receiving low income public assistance (Medicaid, SNAP, WIC, etc.)
  • Living in federal subsidized public housing

Application

Students will apply through the State Financial Aid Portal. Instructions to apply and application deadlines.

When completing the application you will be asked to attach 3 supporting documents:

1. Signed release form.

2. A copy of the student transcript which can be found on your infinite campus account under the "documents" section

3. Documentation to verify financial need. A list of approved verification documents.

The financial aid portal you will use to apply is all managed by the department of higher education. For questions or support related to the Dual Credit/Dual Enrollment Scholarship, including questions about the status of your application, you can reach out to the Department of Higher Education & Workforce Development at 800-473-6757 and select option 4 for assistance.

 

Mehlville High School Dual Credit Scholarship

When funding permits, Mehlville High School will provide scholarships to assist students enrolled in AP and dual credit courses with their costs. The MHS Dual Credit Scholarship program opens and is reviewed each semester based on available funding.   When the scholarship is open and available a "Scholarship Application" button will appear below. 

Spring 2026 Scholarship

Funding has been made available to offer a limited number of scholarships for the Spring 2026 semester.  Students may access the scholarship using the button below - Student must be logged into there MSD Google account to apply.

Transferability

It is important to keep in mind that every college and university has their own policies regarding the acceptance of credits and how they might apply to specific degree programs.  It is the students and their families responsibility to look into how credits might transfer before registering for course.  The following resources can be utilized to help you navigate this process:

  • Transferology: Transferology is an online tool that helps students explore and understand how their college credits can transfer between different participating colleges and universities. This site requires an account to be created, but will allow you to keep an ongoing list courses you have taken with different dual credit providers.  https://www.transferology.com
     
  • Institution Websites: To find out how specific courses transfer to a college or university, conduct a web search to locate the schools transfer policy page.  Some search prompts might include "[Institution name]'s transfer equivalency," "[Institution name]'s transfer credit policies," etc.
     
  • Institution's admissions office: Contact the college or universities admissions office directly to ask how a dual-credit course might transfer.

Following these steps will help you make the most informed decisions about registering for dual credit courses and assist you when making decisions on what dual credit provider might be the best choice for you.
